“These new hybrids are the fruits of our solid relationship with many of the global leaders in corn technology,” says John Latham, president of Latham Hybrids, Sheffield, Iowa. “Our regionalized research program and cutting-edge technology allows us to offer products that will work best for our customers’ field conditions.”
Latham adds, “Amazing advancements have been made in corn hybrid development throughout the past few years. The American farmer is really stepping up to the challenge to feed and fuel the world,” he says. “We’re proud to be their partner in that effort by delivering the seed farmers need to maximize yield per acre in their unique growing conditions.”
New additions to the 2009 Latham Hybrids lineup include:
LH 4508 VT3 — This VT3 triple-stack hybrid is in the 95-day maturity group. It has excellent top-end yield potential and very fast drydown. This hybrid is earlier flowering for its maturity. Its complete trait package provides insect control and herbicide tolerance, featuring protection from corn borer and rootworm with glyphosate tolerance.
LH 4777 VT3 — An outstanding hybrid suitable for the most productive acres, this 97-day hybrid features excellent roots and with very good stalks. It also has ear flex with excellent ear retention. Triple-stack technology provides outstanding tolerance to glyphosate herbicide, as well as season-long corn borer and rootworm protection.
LH5099 VT3 — Similar to other 100-day hybrids for maturity, this hybrid’s excellent roots and stalks make it a great performer even when nutrients are limited. It has a great disease package and its plant health is exceptional.
LH 5066 VT3 — A great yielding VT3 triple-stack hybrid, this medium-plant height hybrid features very strong stalks and sound roots. It also shows good emergence and early vigor. A 100-day RM, it boasts a complete trait package for insect control and herbicide tolerance, featuring protection from corn borer and rootworm with glyphosate tolerance.
LH 5228 VT3 — This hybrid is earlier and similar to other 102-day hybrids for maturity. It earned its way into the lineup with very high yield potential. Extremely fast emergence allows early planting into cooler soils.
LH 5536 VT3 — Expect exceptional top-end yield potential with this 105-day VT3 triple-stack hybrid. Its incredible roots and stalks, as well as its above average disease tolerance, makes it an excellent corn-on-corn hybrid. It has very high test weight with very good grain quality.
LH 5782 RR — This new, 107-day hybrid was brought into the lineup as a glyphosate-tolerant refuge hybrid. It features very good roots and stalks to help it withstand corn borer and rootworm feeding. Its medium-green canopy color makes it less attractive to corn borers, which prefer a dark green, taller plant. This hybrid also has excellent drought tolerance.
LH 5896 VT3 — This new hybrid has incredible yield potential. It’s a 108-day RM that boasts excellent root strength and emergence, good standability and harvestability, as well as moderate ear flex. It offers built-in control of rootworms and corn borers, as well as tolerance to glyphosate herbicide.
LH 6032 RR — This new, high-yielding 110-day hybrid was brought into the lineup for its glyphosate-tolerance. Its medium green canopy color and early flowering make it less attractive to corn borer. It features fast emergence allowing it to be planted earlier.
LH 6248 VT3 — A VT3 triple-stack hybrid in the 112-day maturity group, this hybrid has dominating yield performance. It also has very strong roots, fast emergence and strong vigor in cold soils. The fact that it’s a heavy test weight corn will allow you to store more bushels volume to volume.
LH 6362 RR — This is the fullest season refuge hybrid with glyphosate tolerance in our lineup. It delivers very good roots and stalks to help it withstand corn borer and rootworm feeding. Plant this hybrid first due to its exceptionally fast emergence. It also performs well in corn-on-corn rotations.
